PSG v Man City: Will Lionel Messi Break Goal Drought Against Pep Guardiola’s Side?

Lionel Messi finally scored his first goal for Paris Saint-Germain in a victorious match against Manchester City at the club’s home ground on Tuesday.

Prior to his first football goal, Messi has failed to score a goal during his first three appearances for his new club. His comeback to Mauricio Pochettino’s side marked an excellent run with a stunning finish at 16 minutes before the time.

First Goal

The goal has put the French club ahead in the Champions League with their 2-0 victory against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Messi’s first goal for PSG is both impressive and also common to the Argentinian as he charged forward from the right along with Kylian Mbappe before striking the ball with his might into the opponent’s net.

The victory has caused a surreal noise as Paris Saint-Germain fans have celebrated when they saw the football superstar score his first goal since he joined the club in August.

Messi said in an interview with Canal Plus, “The most important thing was to win the game against a great side, one of the favorites. It’s true that I was getting desperate to score my first goal. I hadn’t played much recently and I had only played once here at home but I am settling into the team little by little.”

Barcelona’s former superstar had skipped the last two matches of PSG due to a knee injury but the fans think that he is being prepared for this glorious moment. Messi only completed 90 minutes for PSG prior to this match before being lined up with Neymar and Mbappe.

Man City’s Response

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said in an interview, “We controlled them and unfortunately we could not score. That’s football. Nothing to say except my biggest compliment to the team.”

When asked about Messi, he responded, “We know it’s impossible to control Leo. He didn’t see a lot of the ball, but he’s unstoppable.”

PSG along with Club Brugge has tied for four points at the top tier of Group A, the latter won 2-1 at RB Leipzig, Man City has three points in the spot.

The defending champions of the last season of Premier League are hoping that they will have a rematch with PSG when they meet with them in the reverse fixture, but they know that this was not the case for them because it is the night PSG basked in their glory with Messi scoring his first goal for the club.
